Therapy

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Therapy can enable you to feel more in control of your life by developing greater awareness of your emotional responses and flexibility in your behavior. My approach is client-centered and I work in partnership with individuals to foster strengths. I help people dealing with issues including anxiety, depression, and interpersonal conflicts, as well as challenges in intimate relationships.

COUPLES THERAPY

Couples seek therapy for a variety of reasons including difficulties in communication, intimacy, and partnership. Adding a baby into the mix changes family dynamics and brings up challenges. I bring my reproductive and maternal mental health expertise to my work with expectant and postpartum couples to facilitate communication around issues including conflicting expectations, changes in role and identity, and parenting challenges.

REPRODUCTIVE AND MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH

Perinatal depression and anxiety affect approximately 1 in 7 childbearing women. As an expert in reproductive and perinatal mental health, I dedicate a large portion of my practice to women and couples impacted by perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, infertility, pregnancy loss, and the transition to parenthood. I have completed specialized training in this area and am an active member of Postpartum Support International.

Training

I offer training to non-profit and for-profit organizations, including behavioral health care agencies, hospitals, schools, medical groups, and others.

Clients include:

  • The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

  • The Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College: Homeless Services Training Resource System

  • The Doe Fund

Recent training topics include:

  • Identifying substance abuse and making an effective referral for treatment

  • Identifying mental health issues in pregnant and postpartum women

Public Speaking

In an effort to raise awareness about perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and help break the stigma around them, I speak at various community organizations about their causes; how postpartum depression differs from the Baby Blues; various treatment options; and what we can do as a community to ensure that women do not suffer in silence. Organizations I have spoken at include the Jewish Center of Teaneck in Teaneck, New Jersey; Mount Sinai Jewish Center in New York City; and Congregation Ahavas Achim in Highland Park, New Jersey. See the link below for an article featuring one of my speaking engagements.

Clinical Supervision

I have a strong interest in supervising and mentoring others who are beginning a new psychotherapy practice as well as working with those who have been in practice for years and are looking to connect with a like-minded supervisor.  I offer you and your practice support while guiding you to a deeper level of clinical understanding and conceptualization of the work. We will explore your professional goals as well as your work with clients. Transference and countertransference are important aspects of supervision and will be explored on an ongoing basis.
